Getting good advice and sharing great ideas
The CANparent Classes and Advice Network brings together a number of organisations who are experienced in running parenting classes and offering support to families. The CANparent trial is currently running in Camden, Middlesbrough, High Peak and Bristol. Parents and carers of children aged from birth until the end of school year one can get a voucher to pay for their class (vouchers not available in Bristol) until March 2014. These classes can be found here.
Current CANparent providers involved in the trial are: Barnardo's; City Lit; Coram; Derbyshire County Partnership; FAST; Family Links; Family Lives; Family Matters Institute; NCT; Parent Gym; Strengthening Families, Strengthening Communities; Solihull Approach; Hand in Hand Learning; Bristol City Council; Restorative Thinking; NDCS; and Care for the Family.
Who can go on a CANparent parenting class?
CANparent is currently open to all parents and carers in England who would like to experience the benefits of parenting classes that have been recognised for their quality. This includes mums, dads, grandparents, aunts and uncles and older siblings.
Choose from a range of different options to suit you and your lifestyle - from online support to local groups. You can find the time and place to learn about what really matters to you and share advice on what really works.
If you live, work or study in Camden, Middlesbrough and High Peak, or your child attends school or nursery there, then you can attend a CANparent class for free using a £100 voucher until the end of March 2014. A voucher can be used by all parents and carers of a child from birth until the end of school year one. Had another child? Child growing up? Want to make more new friends? Parents and carers can go on more than one course, just download another voucher from the website to access your next course.
What will the parenting classes cover?
CANparent classes cover all of the topics any parent/carer of a child will face. Be it daily routines; managing relationships; team parenting; why play is important; behaviour or practical solutions to everyday challenges. While every family is different and every child is different, many parents find that they go through the same challenges, issues and joys as other mums and dads.
On a CANparent class you can get support with everyday challenges such as:-
- learning through play
- parents working together as a team
- communicating and staying calm
- managing sleep issues
- coping with difficult behaviour
- rules and routines
- understanding different stages of your child's development
